ETERNAL GRIDLOCK AHEAD

Just before 8 PM tonight a tanker on I-95 had an accident with a car, spilled 9,000 gallons of fuel oil, exploded, and caught fire. See the story here: Tanker accident.

It happened right at the Howard Avenue overpass on the southbound lane of I-95, the major artery linking NY with all of New England. The accident is about 1 mile from my apartment and I used the Howard Avenue underpass and frontage road every day. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt.

Unfortunately the two local road alternate routes are on either side of my apartment which means all travel for me will be torture, not just my daily commute to the other side of Bridgeport for work.

Both sides of the Interstate will be diverted to the local roads, perhaps for an extended time of weeks or months due to the enormous amount of structural damage to the bridge.

When only some people divert from the Interstate during typical traffic accidents the local roads are horrible; I'm certainly not looking forward to finding out what it will be like when the entire interstate traffic goes local!

This is going to be a huge situation for some time to come.

Checked out the story you linked to and I do not envy you. That is going to be ugly. Take a deep breath and remember this will eventually pass. :-)

Ack...how annoying. Thankfully no one was hurt. I hope it's not an issue for too terribly long.
